Raiders 12, Nottoway 14
A tremendous effort, inspired defense, timely offense and a true TEAM took the field Friday over at Nottoway. We came up a bit short, but the message was sent, the ACHS football program is starting to believe we are second best to no one.
I'm very proud of all of our seniors for laying everything they had on the line Friday. That is the effort needed if we want to get ourselves on top in this district in the future. It was fun to watch and feel bad that we came up short. We gave up a big run early and got behind 8-0, our guys responded and took advantage of some sloppy play by Nottoway and scored late in the first half on a strike by WIlliam Green to Deandre Worsham for a 30 yard TD. Looking back, we could of kicked the extra point, but against a Defense like Nottoway's this year, 8-8 could of easily been the ending score so we decided to go for two, the pass to Worsham was batted down. Nottoway struck back and failed on the two point conversion themselves, and we went into the break down 14-6. From that point on, our Defense simply played lights out. Lead by Tywon Branch, Courtney Bailey, PJ Baker, Brandon Delaney, Sam Brown-White, Courtney Bailey, Sean Clay, Elijah Sturgill, Javon Banks, Tre EL, and Kyrei Green we were able to shut out Nottoway in the 2nd half. We were able to get within two points on a pass from Green to Deion Harris, but a fumbled exchanged kept us from tying the game. We were able to get one more chance offensively and went on a last minute drive, 65 yards with some key third down pickups and put ourselves in position with 9 seconds left to give it one last heave. They pass was broken up and the game ended.
Coach Windom and Coach Watkins summed it up with the kids, keep your heads held high, we just took another step in building this program!! The support from the stands and all our parents has been tremendous and it was great to see them huddle up with the guys after the game. "I'm a winner, Thats it, Period, Keep on Fighting!!" Everybody yelled it, Everybody meant it. Can't wait for 2015!!

Keys to the Game: Week 10
vs. Goochland
-Courtesy of Coach Tiller & Coach Watkins
The Raiders continued to have high-energy, focused practices this week. We worked hard to prepare for the Goochland Bulldogs. Expect to see some defensive changes in order to match up strong against a tough Wing-T offense.
Here is what we need to do to beat Goochland:
-
Be fast upfront on defense.
-
Gang tackle. 11 hats in the game film!
-
Take care of the football. Zero turnovers!
-
Play mistake-free football.
-
Eat. Sleep. Conquer. Repeat.
Raiders 24, Goochland 52
A kick return for a TD late in the first half by goochlands Jordan Jefferson gave the Bulldogs all the momentum in an otherwise exciting first half of football.
We traded scores with them and got the score to 18-12 after a good drive and TD run by Deion Harris. We just kicked it to the wrong guy and he did what he does. If we could of gone into the locker room trailing by 6 and getting the ball after the half, it could of swung the game our way. Instead we trailed 26-12 and we never really threatened again. We did really good things on offense. 240 yards passing and 145 yards rushing is a good day, but their special teams and our lack of Defense was too much to overcome. We will travel to Nottoway next week in round 1 of the 2a east playoffs.
William Green: 21-30, 240 yards ,1 TD
Deandre Worsham: 10 catches, 124 yards, 1 TD
Deion Harris: 15 rushes, 92 yards, 1 TD
Ty'jion Parrish.: 1 interception, 3 catches, 55 yards.
Congratulations, Seniors! Thank you for all that you have done to build the Raiders Football Program!

Amelia 51, Bluestone 7
It was another offensive explosion as the Raiders put up over 550 yards to bury the Barons. Junior QB Will Green through for 205 yards and three scores and added a running touchdown to lead the way in the victory. A lot of players were involved and the victory secured a spot in the 2a East playoffs and also guaranteed a winning season. At 6-3, we travel to 7-2 Goochland next Friday with a home playoff game perhaps on the line. A win could keep us at home in the first round which would be huge We hope that our fans make the trip to Goochland and give support. Our players are extremely excited for the matchup.
Deandre Worsham - 6 catches 124 yards 2 TD
Deion Harris 10 carries 84 yards 2 TD
Kyrei Green -5 Tackles for loss
Courtney Bailey -7 tackles 3 for loss 1 PBU
Richard Perry -5 carries 99 yards 2 TD

The JV Raiders started the week off with a solid shutout performance on Thursday behind 3 Andrew Ford touchdown's, and the varsity Raiders stole the show Friday night here in Amelia behind four touchdowns from Deandre Worsham and three interceptions from PJ Baker.
"It appears the guys are starting to find their stride and play as 1 unit, which is something we have stressed all year. Practice has been full focus and the kids are responding by playing as hard as they can and having each others backs. On Friday we were able to run 44 times for 390 yards. You cannot do that if you aren't playing for each other, we also through for 190 and put on a good show for the home crowd.
Richard Perry. 7 rushes 143 yards 1 TD. 55 yards receiving. 75 yard kick return 1TD
Deandre Worsham. 65 yards rushing 1 TD. 95 yards receiving 2 TD
Deion Harris. 101 yards rushing, 2 TD
William Green. 13-19, 190 yards, 2 TD. 55 rushing yards.
PJ Baker. 3 interceptions, 9 tackles, 1 for loss, 2 PBU's.
Hunter Chase. 7 rushes, 27 yards, 1 TD
Courtney Bailey, Matt Dorton, Gerard Walker, Sean Clay, Isaac Mosby, Tyler Foore, Eric Royal, Kyrei Green, all had stellar performances in the trenches controlling the line of scrimmage.
Next Friday, at home vs Bluestone. 7 pm. Wear Camo!!

Continue not turning the ball over.
-
The quick passing game must be there all night.

Amelia 28, Prince Edward 13
On Friday the varsity raiders played inspired, together and turnover-free on their way to a romp over a good Prince Edward team. We were able to control the ball and clock and manage over 450 yards of offense. Besides one big run play by the Eagles, our defense swarmed and tackled well all night. Our skill players and offensive line are blocking like their lives depend on it, and that has been the big difference. Matt Dorton, Gerard Walker, Isaac Mosby, Courtney Bailey, Tyler Foore, Tre El, Richard Perry, Ty-jion Parrish and Brandon Delaney have done tremendous jobs blocking. We have certainly continued to get better, and that's a testament to our players for realizing a couple losses doesn't mean our season was over. We have a ton left to prove knowing that a lot of folks had written us off. We are excited for the next two games, both at home in front of our crowd!!

This week's practices have been different, since we played Monday night. We are doing a good job of focusing on Friday's game while trying to work out a few kinks from Monday.
What we need to do to be successful Friday:
-
Move the ball, maintain possession, use up the clock.
-
Keep the Eagles' offense off the field.
-
Control the line of scrimmage.
-
Defensively we must know our assignments and get the read right. Every down.
-
Take care of the football.
Amelia 50, Cumberland 30
I would like to thank Ms. Salley, Mr. Swearengin, Mr. Hudson, Mr. Benji Morris, Will Jones, the ACHS Athletic Boosters, all the football parents who give their time and energy, and the Amelia community. Monday’s game was a great experience, thanks to all these great people.
Our goal coming into this game was to re-establish the run, and to make sure when we threw the ball, it was action off our run to simplify things for our young team. Our kids responded well and remain extremely focused even after some tough losses over the past few weeks. Defensively we played sloppy at times but we were able to create some turnovers, which is always a point of emphasis.
This Friday’s game against Prince Edward is very important, and we hope to fill the stands on our side. PJ Baker, Tre El, Richard Perry, Deion Harris and our entire offensive line came up with huge performances on Monday, and we are excited to continue building on those successes.
Thanks again to all involved and please continue to show your support!!

Play with energy.
-
Relentless pursuit.
